Common Problems

I can't find a particular file or folder but I know it's on my PC somewhere!

Click on the Start menu and Search all files and folders. Type in the name of the missing file or folder and Windows will try to find it.

How do I get rid of a program I don't need anymore?

To remove a program you need to uninstall it from your PC:

Click on the Start menu then Control Panel. Click on Add/Remove programs, select the program from the list and click Remove.

Or you can go to your Start menu and in your programs list, find the entry for the particular program and click on the link to Uninstall the program.

Short Computer Tips

Don't want a CD to start just yet? Hold down the Shift key when you put it in the drive. Then it won't start automatically!

If you have a mouse that has a scroll wheel, try giving the wheel a push. Once you do that, you should see a big double arrow appear. You can then just move your mouse up and down and it will do an "automatic scroll" for you.

No scrolling: hit the end key on your keyboard to get to the bottom of a page. The home key will go to the top.

Need to undo a wrongly typed keystroke? Drag-and-Dropped a program to the wrong place? In most programs, Control + Z is the Undo command.

Highlight the item you want to get rid of and Shift + Delete. One step! Just be careful, because it's really gone!
